PHD Research
For my PhD research, I’m conducting narrative oral history analysis. Put simply, I get to listen to the life stories of individuals as it relates to one big event they experienced. The event in focus was the mass shooting incident where Rev. Risher and Rev. Thompson lost loved ones. I sat down with both of these amazing leaders separately over the course of 5 days to record about 8 hours of interview time.
We laughed, we cried, we ate together, we sang together, we went to church, we exchanged gifts, and my family was able to spend time learning from these fellow Christians who have endured so much. Rev. Thompson & Rev. Risher are Hebrews 11 heroes of the faith—enduring the worst forms of Christian nationalism while bravely fighting the demonic forces of tribalism, racism, and the type of false unity that allows for injustice to permeate our churches.
About Me
I come from a long line of southern oilmen, fighters, farmers, and bookies. I was born in Texas, grew up in Seattle, and moved to L.A. when I began following Jesus. I’ve found my way by telling stories, helping activate others, and starting things. I have also failed a lot.
I’ve tried to make the world a better place through pastoring, local activism, filmmaking, teaching, academic work, starting a family, and entrepreneurialism.
In my work, I have failed a lot. Every day I’m trying to find my identity in Jesus more than my mistakes or accomplishments.
The content on this site is an extension of this very desire—to help make the world better. With Jesus, this can happen.
